Aim of the Game

Swimming

The fastest time wins. Competition distances range from 50 – 1,500m and there are four swimming styles, including backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle. Medley events require athletes to swim all four swimming strokes in one race. Four athletes can also join forces in the freestyle and medley relay events.

Synchronised Swimming

Originally referred to as water ballet, synchronised swimming has four disciplines; solo (1 athlete), duet (2 athletes), team (4-8 athletes) and free combination (6-10 athletes). Athletes perform an artistic routine in a swimming pool to music and are judged on the artistry, execution and difficulty of their performance.

Diving

Athletes will compete individually, in pairs (known as synchronised diving or synchro), or as a team. From either a platform or a springboard, athletes will perform complex dives and are judged on the difficulty level and execution. The men's and women's 1m and 3m springboard and 10m platform events feature a preliminary and a final while the men's, women's and mixed 3m and 10m synchro events and the team event are direct finals. Highest score wins.

Open Water

Fastest time wins with male and female events in a 5k, 10k and 25k open water course. 3 athletes can also join together to compete in the 5k team event.
