Future Rowing stars take to the water with Glasgow2018 ambassador Karen Bennett
On the day she was announced as our latest sporting ambassador, British Rowing star and 2016 European Champion Karen Bennett took to the water with some of Scottish Rowing’s future stars.
India Isles (25), Perri McCluskey (19), Colette Smith (17) are part of the World Class Start programme at Glasgow 2018 host venue Strathclyde Park, which aims to give talented young athletes the ability to try other sports to see if they can transfer their skills.

The three rowers got to discuss their journey into rowing with Karen Bennett and were even given a chance to row with the Olympian on Strathclyde Loch itself.
Here’s what they had to say about their experience:
India Isles, 25
It was great to be able to ask an Olympic silver medallist and European gold medalist about their experiences and journey to reach such an elite level in rowing.
Despite the water being pretty rough it was cool to be able to sit in a boat with an elite rower, watch their technique, receive tips on how to move the boat and help enhance overall rowing performance.
Being a budding rower myself striving to reach the pinnacle of international rowing it was great to hear that the European Championships was a highlight in Karen’s career achieving great success in the women’s eight and winning gold!
Perri McCluskey, 19
It’s exciting that Strathclyde Country Park will be televised all over the world as people will get to see how great the facilities are and how scenic the country really is.
Colette Smith, 17
Rowing with Karen Bennett was a fantastic opportunity and I felt privileged to get to row with an Olympian. Meeting someone who was once in my position and now a very successful rower was inspiring! I can't wait to watch her at Glasgow 2018.
Tickets are on sale now for the European Rowing Championships at Strathclyde Country Park, with adults starting from £20 and under 16s and over 60s from £10.
