Draw Bonnie competition winner hits the big screen

Our winner: Rachel Morrison (13) from Knightswood drew the winning picture, showing Bonnie on the new BMX track being built close to her home.

After a whopping 600 entries from schoolchildren across Scotland we can finally reveal the winner of Bonnie the seal's 'Draw Bonnie' competition...

A big well done to 13 year old Rachel Morrison from Knightswood who drew this amazing picture of Bonnie the Seal showing off her excellent BMX skills.

Bonnie celebrated the countdown to the Championships by asking her pals to draw her taking part in their favourite Glasgow 2018 sport and the seal pup was well impressed by all of the creative entries received.

Rachel’s winning entry has been awarded with four tickets to the Glasgow 2018 European Junior Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (Final) on Friday 3 August and a Bonnie cuddly toy.  Rachel’s artwork will be also be displayed to thousands of people on a busy Glasgow Clydeside expressway billboard.

Winning pupil Rachel said:
“I chose to draw Bonnie doing a BMX trick because I live very close to the BMX track being built at Knightswood and will be going to watch the BMX racing there this August. I also drew the audience to make it look like Bonnie is at the Championships competing.”

Bonnie was blown away by the amazing efforts to capture her having a go at the sports which will be on display around Scotland from 2 to 12 August, including Aquatics, Cycling, Gymnastics, Golf, Rowing and Triathlon.

While all of the drawings got Bonnie’s seal of approval, there could only be one winner. Bonnie and the Glasgow 2018 staff had a splashing time whittling down hundreds of entries before Bonnie chose who got top spot.

Glasgow 2018 Championships Director, Colin Hartley, said: “We were delighted by the sheer number of bonnie entries from right across Scotland as children and adults alike got behind the competition fronted by our much-loved mascot.

“As excitement for Glasgow 2018 continues to grow, Bonnie’s playful character continues to inspire and encourage children to learn new sports. Families can look forward to a whole host of sporting action across Glasgow and Scotland this summer.”

Bonnie will be travelling around Scotland meeting children and sports fans between now and the Championships. To keep up to date with Bonnie’s adventures or invite her to your school, sports club or event, visit www.glasgow2018.com/bonnie.
