Orbital performing at Glasgow 2018

Electro giants Orbital delivered a night to remember with a unique performance at Glasgow’s George Square as part of Festival 2018.

Their stunning live performance amazed a jam-packed George Square audience - with more than 2,700 people taking to the city centre to watch the dance legends in person.

Marking the final Friday night of Festival 2018, brothers Paul and Phil Hartnoll delivered a set featuring new material and classic tracks.

Paul Hartnoll, said: “What a night! The Glasgow audiences never disappoint. It was brilliant to be back gigging in Scotland and to perform in such an iconic location.

“A big thanks to the crowds who came out and we’re already looking forward to seeing you next time.”

Thousands more are expected to visit the Festival 2018 city centre hubs of George Square, Glasgow Green and Merchant City over the final weekend, with a host of activities on offer for the whole family to enjoy.

George Square will welcome Mogwai’s Barry Burns New European Music gig tonight (Saturday 11 August) and the UK’s biggest winter music festival, Celtic Connections, is set to round off the Festival 2018 programme with their closing party tomorrow (Sunday 12 August), with an impressive array of world-class musicians taking to the stage.

Championships Director Colin Hartley said: “Seeing Orbital play to a crowd of thousands on George Square has to have been one of my Glasgow 2018 highlights. I am always blown away by the Glasgow audiences. Whether it’s been at the cultural events or as part of the sporting action, the visitors to the Glasgow 2018 European Championships have really added to the electric atmosphere. The city is buzzing and I can’t wait to see what the final weekend has in store for this inaugural event.”

The Festival 2018 cultural programme has put Glasgow and Scotland’s renowned arts sector and creativity in the spotlight, offering the best in music, visual art, street art, dance, theatre, digital art and comedy – with free events for all ages. George Square has been the beating heart of the programme with Merchant City and Glasgow Green hosting activities and performances nearby.
