Interesting sporting fact: The German capital Berlin is co-hosting the first-ever European Championships alongside Glasgow. The city's historic Olympic Stadium will stage the 2018 European Athletics Championships, forming one incredible multi-sport event with Scotland.
Star athlete | Kristina Vogel (Track Cycling)
The current Olympic, World and European sprint champion is one of Germany's most exciting athletes. After recovering from serious injury in 2009, Vogel rose to prominence in the world of Track Cycling by winning Olympic gold at London 2012 with the German Team Sprint squad. Has since gone on to win an impressive 25 medals at World and European level including two golds at last year's European Track Cycling Championships - where she rode to victory in the Women's Keirin and the Sprint events. Will be eager to add to her medal collection at Glasgow 2018.
One to watch | Sophie Scheder (Gymnastics)
Winner of a historic bronze medal in the uneven bars at Rio 2016 - Germany's first in the event since 1988 - Scheder could turn out to be one of the stars of the show in Glasgow. The 21-year-old gave an encouraging performance at the 2015 World Gymnastics Championships in Glasgow and would relish a return to the SSE Hydro this August. Just one of an exciting crop of young German gymnasts including Pauline Schäfer and Elisabeth Seitz who will be targetting team success too.
