Bonnie heads home to Argyll for Christmas after series of ‘sealiously’ fun adventures

It’s only a matter of months since Bonnie the seal was unveiled as the Glasgow 2018 European Championships official mascot, making the journey from Argyll to Glasgow to be face of the exciting new multi-sport event.

In that time, she’s packed her schedule full of appearances and visits, meeting lots of new friends and trying new sports and activities. As she heads home for a well-earned Christmas break, we look back at some of the fun she’s been having around the UK throughout December.

Bonnie the seal was on hand to greet crowds at this year’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year at the Liverpool Echo Arena.

The mascot was all smiles on the red carpet and met a whole host of sporting royalty – from rowing star Karen Bennett and sprinter Adam Gemili to boxing sensation Tony Bellew and fellow mascot Hero the Hedgehog, who wowed crowds at this year’s IAAF World Athletics Championships London 2017.

Sunday, 10 December saw Glasgow come alive with festive spirit when 8,500 people posing as Santa took to the city centre streets for a five kilometre dash.

Bonnie couldn’t wait to join in the fun and give everyone at the finish line a sprinkle of Christmas cheer and congratulate them as they crossed. Participants of all ages dressed in red suits and beards took part to raise money for charity.

Harry Potter in Concert

Bonnie was delighted to meet lots of little wizards and witches this month when they descended on the Glasgow 2018 gymnastics venue – the SSE Hydro – for a magical evening at Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in Concert. The seal pup had a spell binding night alongside hundreds of Harry Potter fans.

Spending a night celebrating the very best in Scottish sport, Bonnie made a splash at the Sunday Mail sportscotland Scottish Sports Awards this December.

The glittering ceremony at the Doubletree by Hilton Glasgow Central, hosted by comedian Fred MacAulay, saw para athlete Sammi Kinghorn crowned Scottish Sports Personality of the Year and Bonnie met the star wheelchair racer herself.

Surprising guests at the Scottish Student Sport Festive Gathering 2017 at City of Glasgow College, Bonnie met lots of inspirational student athletes as they celebrated an exciting year of college and university sport in Scotland.
