“Sealed” with a kiss – Glasgow mascot congratulates newlyweds
Glasgow 2018 mascot Bonnie the Seal attended a different kind of ceremony this week as she was invited to a wedding taking place at Glasgow City Chambers. She was honoured to witness the wedding of Deborah and Sami Elgahmi, who are visiting the city from their home town of South Shields in Tyne and Wear.
A healthy dose of romance added to the already fantastic atmosphere in Glasgow as Bonnie congratulated the newly married couple with a shower of confetti after they tied the knot.
When Deborah and Sami discovered they were getting married in the middle of the Championships, they were delighted to invite Bonnie along as guest of honour. She didn’t have any official duties, just to help the couple celebrate and be her usual ‘bonnie’ self in some special wedding shots.
The happy couple said: “Today is such a special day for us, and has been made even more precious by getting married in the middle of the European Championships. The atmosphere is amazing and everyone has been so very kind, making sure that we got to the registry office on time and with the minimum of stress.
“The icing on the cake was Bonnie joining us as a wedding guest and taking centre stage in the photos!”
Bonnie the Seal is out and about in Glasgow and across Scotland during the Glasgow 2018 European Championships and will be visiting sporting venues, Festival 2018 sites and GO LIVE! at the Green. Find out more about Bonnie the seal.
